Ebooks
What are ebooks? Why can't I buy that story in print?
eBooks are digital books. They can be read on a variety of readers and apps including Kindle, Nook, Sony eReader, iProducts, and the PC or Mac screen you are currently looking at. When you purchase ebooks, you need to know where you will be reading them before you decide which format to buy or download. More on that later.

Many of my self published titles are available in ebook format only. This is because they are short stories/novellas/or short novels. The cost of printing them would mean it would cost too much to buy them for the amount of story you are getting. I am looking at the possibility of putting a few of them together in an anthology for print at some point.

How can I purchase books by Gwen Hayes?
There are a variety of ways you can purchase my books and stories depending on the way you like to shop. For your convenience, I have linked most major sellers below the description of each book. I also have several stories you can purchase directly from me by using the "add to cart" button. At any time, you can see and manage your cart by clicking "view cart" button in sidebar from any page on my site.

Why is there sales tax added in my cart?
If you have a Washington state address, I have to collect sales tax. Sorry.

I downloaded the zip file...now what? For your convenience, rather than sell individual formats, I decided to put the three most used ebook file formats into one zip file for the same price. This means before you put it on your reader, you need to extract the files. If you are unsure how to do this, I recommend checking out these sites:
For Windows
For Mac

I have unzipped the files...now what?
Great! Now you have three files you can either sideload to your reader (check out Sony, Kindle, Nook, Kobo websites for instructions) or email if you have Kindle, or open if you are reading on the screen in front of you.
The .mobi file is intended for Kindle users.
The .epub file will work with your iProducts, Nook, Kobo, Sony, etc
The .pdf will open on your PC or Mac.

What do you do with my email and or street address if I enter it during checkout?
Right now? Nothing. If you check the box to subscribe for updates, at some point in the future, maybe I'll do a newsletter or something. So far, it hasn't happened, but you never know. You will want to use a real, working email though or you won't get your download link.

Is there DRM in your files?
DRM sucks. My self pubbed titles are DRM free.

Are there geographical restrictions on your books?
My self pubbed etitles are free range.

What do you do with my credit card information?
I never see your credit card information. The shopping cart software takes you to your choice of secure online providers like Paypal or Google. I don't see your account information at all.

Questions about the stories and books
Is there a sequel to Falling Under?
Yes! The sequel to Falling Under is called Dreaming Awake and it will be released in early 2012.

Is there a playlist for Falling Under?

I find music VERY inspiring. You can find a partial playlist here.

Where can I get my book signed?
If you check my event page, you can see if I'm going to be signing anywhere near you. If you live in the Seattle area, I try to sneak into the Barnes & Nobles and sign stock.
You may also purchase signed books directly from my website--look for the link "add to cart" in the book description. (At this time I can only ship books to US addresses.)

I can also send you signed book plate ( a sticker that you put inside your book). Just send a self addressed, stamped envelope (with a note for how you would like the inscription to read) to:

Gwen Hayes
POB 2286
Port Angeles, WA 98362
(I can send bookplates and books marks internationally as long as you send me the self-addressed and stamped envelope.)

Questions about Gwen Hayes
Do you have advice for aspiring writers?
I do. I have advice about everything, actually, just maybe not all of it is good.

As far as writing goes, I recommend that people who want to write READ. Read everything. Read outside your genre, read screenplays, read memoirs, read poorly written books, read awesome books...I mean it!

And don't give up, even if someone tells you that you don't write well. Critiques can be hard to take, but you should try to take what you think you can learn from it and apply it to your writing--even if what you learn from it is that reading is subjective and you can't please everyone all of the time.  It could be that you have a lot of work ahead of you, though. Maybe you have a passion for storytelling, but the mechanics of writing are not your strong suit. Maybe your dialogue isn't realistic...maybe your plot is weak. And that is okay. You can always improve your craft if you keep writing...if you give up because someone told you you couldn't do it, then they were right.
